【摘要】:Thispracticeisapplicableforqualitativelyevaluatingcoatedanduncoatedmonolithicpolycarbonatesheetmaterial,formonitoringprocesscontrol,forscreeningstudies,andasanaidinthepredictionofhardwareperformancewhenexposedtoimpactserviceconditions.AlimitationofTypeAspecimentestingisthatathicksheetmaynotfailsincetheavailableimpactenergyislimitedbythemaximumdropheightandfallingweightcapacityofthetestapparatus.UseSpecimenTypeAformateriallessthan12.7mm(0.50in.)thick.Withintherangeofdropheightsofthissystem,testsemployingdifferentvelocitiesarenotexpectedtoproducedifferentresults.However,foragivenseriesoftests,itisrecommendedthatthedropheightbeheldapproximatelyconstantsothatvelocityofimpact(strainrate)willnotbeavariable.Asthepolycarbonatespecimenundergoeslargeplasticdeformationunderimpact,thedown(oppositeimpact)sideisundertensileloadingandmostinfluentialininitiatingfailure.Polycarbonatesheetcoatedononesidemayyieldsignificantlydifferenttestresultswhentestedwiththecoatedsidedownversusthecoatedsideup.DirectcomparisonofspecimenTypeAandspecimenTypeBtestresultsshouldnotbeattempted.Fortestprogramsthatwillrequirethecomparisonofinterlaboratorytestresultsthespecimentypeandtheapproximatedropheightmustbespecified.Monolithicpolycarbonatesheetisnotchsensitive.Dataobtainedfromothertestmethods,particularlynotchedIzod/Charpytestresults,andextremelyhigh-orlow-strainratetestresults,shouldnotbecompareddirectlytodataobtainedfromthismethod.ItisnotedthatTypeAspecimens,freeofflaws,havenotexperiencedthecharacteristicductile-to-brittletransitionbetweenthin,lessthan3.18mm(1/8in.),andthick,greaterthan7.94mm(5/16in.),sheetasreflectedbyothertestmethods.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationoftheenergyrequiredtoinitiatefailureinmonolithicpolycarbonatesheetmaterialunderspecifiedconditionsofimpactusingafreefallingweight.1.2Twospecimentypesaredefinedasfollows:1.2.1TypeAconsistsofaflatplatetestspecimenandemploysaclampedringsupport.1.2.2TypeBconsistsofasimplysupportedthree-pointloadedbeamspecimen(Fig.1)andisrecommendedforusewithmaterialwhichcannotbefailedusingtheTypeAspecimen.Foramaximumdropheightof6.096m(20ft)andamaximumdropweightof22.68kg(50lb),virginpolycarbonategreaterthan12.70mm(1/2in.)thickwillprobablyrequireuseoftheTypeBspecimen.Note1-SeealsoASTMMethods:D1709,D2444andD3029.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecifichazardstatement,SeeSection7.
